40-50 employees year round. The company utilizes approximately 1 million
pounds of recycled rubber each month, equivalent to 62,000 raw tires.
All raw material is Alberta based, however the company anticipates outsourcing
raw material in the near future, based on increased consumer demand
for the company's high quality products.
To become the pre-eminent
manufacturer of value added, end use, innovative products, made from
100% recycled rubber, and to ensure all recyclable rubber is utilized
in the most valuable manner for the environment, and the world.
Champagne Edition Inc.
was incorporated in 1994 after a 2 year start up doing industrial manufacturing
for the oilfield and commercial industry. In 1994, the company started
using rubber crumb from recycled tires in a product designed for dairy
farmers. This product was called the Cozy Cow® Mattress. Cozy Cow® has
performed extremely well, and the company has realized phenomenal growth
over the past four years.
In 1998, Champagne
Edition Inc. began developing its molding division, eco-flex®. The
eco-flex® product line includes a variety of rubber tile surfacing
options, used for decking, driveways, walkways, golf courses,
playgrounds, parks, etc. The introduction of products such as the
cobblestone tiles, grid tiles, I-tiles, Z-bricks, and playground
tiles were included in the eco-flex product line.
During 1999, the company
continued to develop the eco-flex product line, and began extensive
marketing of the same. Also during this year, the company enhanced its
manufacturing capacity by creating a processing line to process tire
shred into rubber crumb, the main ingredient in Champagnes' manufactured
products. The processing line operates under a separate limited company,
"Rubber Tech International Ltd.". By operating its own processing line,
Champagne Edition has a significant competitive edge within the industry,
as it has the ability to process rubber crumb in both quantity and quality.
In 2000 the company expanded
the eco-flex product line to include the "Churchill" bricks, the eco-flex
E-Z Drive® Curb Ramps, beveled playground tiles, and rubber nosing for
stairs. Further product awareness was conducted for this innovative
product line, through tradeshows, and advertising campaigns, including
an eco-flex commercial.
Champagne Edition's growth
over the past 4 years, demonstrates the company's ability, and expertise,
to develop high quality products made from recycled rubber. The company
will continue to develop consumer awareness regarding for its product
lines, in particular, the eco-flex® line, and the many advantages of
choosing this product over others in the market place. By continuing
to create awareness, and ultimately demand for the company's high quality
rubber surfacing products, the company will be one step closer to converting
rubber crumb into a commodity, rather than a century old problem.
