Introducing
Interlocking Recycled Rubber Decking Tiles from
Unity Surfacing Systems!
Unity Surfacing Systems, based in New York
state, produces recycled rubber tiles suitable for
a variety of applications. For decking
applications, they offer a series of interlocking
and non-interlocking tiles. These
22" x 44" tiles come in a range of thicknesses
ranging from 1 inch to 3.75 inches. The thicker
interlocking tiles offer a high level of
cushioning with certified fall-height impact ratings from
3 feet to 11 feet. Non-interlocking versions are
also available in 1", 1.5" and 1.75" thicknesses. These products
are all produced in a variety of
colors and are made from 100% recycled tires.
Unity's 2.25 inch and thicker tiles, offer a
unique double
interlocking system with bolt-down
capability. With this system, special
interlocking tabs are positioned every three
inches along the edge of each tile. These
interlocking tabs can be held in place by friction
or glued together for a very
secure installation. The interlocking tabs
eliminate product to product separation and
curling of the tiles. The assembled interlocked
mat can be glued to the subsurface, or allowed to
float freely for better drainage.
Alternatively, for an even more
secure installation, the tiles can be
attached to a hard subsurface with screws or bolts.
The Unity interlocking tiles have special countersunk screw
locations on each of the interlocking tabs.
The
photos on the right and below show the interlocking system
and the bolt-down receptacle locations. The
multiple interlocking tabs tightly
join individual tiles together,
eliminating expansion, contraction
and peeling problems that can
occur with some other rubber surfacing products..

In
addition to providing excellent impact protection
and a secure interlocking system, the Utility
Tile design addresses another important
issue common to both playground and decking
applications... drainage.
As
shown in the photo on the right, Unity
tiles have hundreds of small molded support cones
protruding from the base. These cones perform two
functions. They absorb shock and allow for water and
air to easily flow under the tiles.
Unity products are available in a variety of colors.
The standard colors are black, gray, red, green tan,
blue, white, teal, brown and purple. Custom EPDM colors such as the multi-colored
"Splash" shown below next to the black tile and and
gray speckled on the right are just a few of the options. Using solid colored EPDM rubber
granules, dozens of color combinations are possible.

The
decking tiles from Unity Surfacing Systems offer
superior impact absorption and a unique
interlocking system. These 22" x 44" tiles come in
a variety of thickness and color options making
this product suitable for many applications. In
addition to the interlocking tiles and
non-interlocking tiles, matching sloped ramps or
transition pieces are also available.
Unity Surfacing materials have been fully tested
and certified to meet ADA, ASTM and CSPC
guidelines for fall-heights, slip resistance, fire
resistance, weathering and wheelchair
accessibility.
Unity products are also "value-priced". When
compared to similar products from other
manufacturers, Unity Recycled Rubber Tiles cost
10% to 20% less.
